This is Not a Love Song
Corporations amassing wealth, can't get insurance for your health
Do elected politicians do our bidding, c'mon man, who are you kidding?
The recession that never seems to end, nothing at all is on the mend
Borrowing more than you lend, Africa has nothing left to spend
Do you really have nothing to suggest?
Cos this is not a love song, it's a Protest
The smack-heads on the streets are dying, the crime rate is defying
The president has another lie in, it's a drive-by and not a drive-in
HIV/ Aids is still soaring, while acid rain is still pouring
Switch off the news it's boring, it's just the World that you're ignoring
I'm singing this so t
Darren arrives with Judith on arm
The black eye she is hiding
Is just part of his charm
Mary has been there since long before six
And eaten so much cake
She's making herself sick
Paula is jealous of Michael, her ex
Who is flirting with Gina
And has a hard on for sex
David's in the bathroom snorting coke
These people make him nervous
They don't know he fancies blokes
Frances is looking around to see
Why everyone's pissed on vodka
And there's no bloody tea
As a child of Obedience
I hung on your every word
Trying to learn
The rich colours of World
So I spoke the lines, you fed me
I towed the line, you led me
As an teen of Curiosity
I wondered if you were right
But usually kept my mouth shut
To avoid a fettered fight
I questioned the lines, you fed me
I tugged on the line, you led me
As a young adult of Rebellion
I walked an angry path
I scoffed at your generation
I cut you down by half
I snorted the lines, you fed me
I kicked the line, you led me
As a women of Wisdom
I try to see both sides
I've learned the colours of the World
I carry myself with pride
I choose the lines,
You play the music of the street
To scurrying legs and passing feet
They throw money in your jar
From New Orleans to Wichita
You have no place to call your own
But you have never really been alone
From city bars to camping grounds
You just keep travelling round and round
In winter times you chase the suns
To find the friends that you knew once
From the South of France to the Spanish Steps
You have no maps of what'll be next
You used to dream you'd make it big
And have your own successful gig
But twenty years have passed you by
And you can no longer live that lie
The wrinkles of life upon your face
You can no longer keep the p
You fell from the double sided moon
A two-faced Gemini from June
You dripped into me like a trickle of doubt
Till every inch of me was streaming out
I tried to pull myself together
Tried to ride your tempestuous weather
And rooted to this brittle land
I reached for your long-fingered hand
You spun me with alacrity
And then you tossed me out to sea
Your laughing eyes looking back at me
Brimming with a hideous gaiety
And for every storm after every calm
Yet another echoing bell of alarm
Still I stayed bewitched by your charm
My blood running thick with your harm
For a thousand long years I waited
My breath held taut and heavy
I played a game of Hold 'Em
But I folded in your hands
I played the devil's advocate
I played in your rock band
I played with fire, I played the fool
I played with you, but broke the rule
I hope you can understand
You were my rock of ages
You said I rocked your world
But when I rocked the boat
It wasn't rock 'n roll no more
So you built a giant moat
And left me here on dry land
Stuck between a rock and a hard place
And you hoped I'd understand
I rolled the dice, I rolled with the punches
I rolled a joint and listened to my hunches
You broke your promises, you broke my heart
Was it you who played me from the start?
When you enter a room the heads turn to stare
At your perfect posture and wild drunken hair
Your tight fitting jeans on your hot derrière
And you know that they're looking, you're fully aware
Words that fall from your mouth make me insecure
You design it as such, I'm becoming quite sure
You want to test just how much shit I'll endure
Whilst batting your eyeslids, so lovely and pure
You think you'll impress with your social clout
As you strut and swagger and swoon about
Drawing attention to the beauty you flout
And when you're ignored you are all put out
And you say that you've got everything going
And that your talents are s

Let storms through clouded heavens ride
and with their violence tear the skies
There's comfort in this rain that hides
the tears that gather in my eyes
Let winds across the landscape roll
to take my sobbing far from all
And carry sounds of sorrow whole
that in the distance they may fall
Let thunder crack the stars above
as though this ache were not enough
Distract me from the pain of love
conceal my hurt amongst the rough
I can see you standing there
Beneath the warm lit street lamp, there are
Snowflakes falling in your hair
Your arm is held out for mine, and
As we skip softly down the street
I think, won't this memory be sweet
The flurries of dark and white
Backlit with city lights
We're like snowdrops and gummi bears
And sugar plums caught everywhere and
Snowball fights, and deep sweet dreams
And cotton candy balls, and ice cream
Starlight, caught in-between
Our beating hearts now can't you see
We make a happy ever after scene
Were it for a sweetness, we'd be Christmas
I can see us sitting there
Sipping hot chocolate, looking at the
Dancing
Today, I packed away your pictures.
And the way I folded away your smile
Felt like I was losing you for good
I took a walk to clear my head
And found something unexpected
I stepped out into the street
And the way the sun touched my shoulders
Seemed like your arms around me
I passed a candy shop
And the way the sugar scorched and browned
Became the precise shade of your hair
I lay down in the park
And the way the grass tickled me
Felt a little like your fingertips on my skin
I stayed and watched the setting sun
And the way it colored the sky a warm pink
Became the same soft color of your lips
You used to blush when I kissed yo
Elusive quarry indeed.
Bright-faced youths may scamper
Endlessly
Through sunlit meadows full of fluttering
And yet, at end of day, return tired
Nets empty
But eager to try again, as children are.
What of those too old, or too slow?
They'll run too, or perhaps just watch.
The glittering prize, promised
And so often savoured in anticipation
Proves always out of reach.
Easy, after a while, to stop and rest.
Easy, later,
To forget those dappled hues and their dancing flight.
Retire, and pretend they never were.
Seek solace in other, greyer things.
Or remain forever haunted.
Gazing, maybe, at those more fortunate.
And in envy
Sucking dreams through plastic straws
Burning bridges and slamming doors
There is no whirlwind of applause
Only breaking down and breaking laws
And a cracked mirror to reflect your flaws
The day the dreamcatcher came
To reignite your failing flame
Tossing coins into gambling machines
Like a wishing well for futile dreams
Taking life and limits to extremes
Flowing chastisements affect ebbing esteems
And now the rights are wrongs, or so it seems
The day the dreamcatcher knew
That all you wanted was a better you
Looking back at mistakes that were made
Those stupid rules that you never obeyed
A hundred thousand welcomes overstayed
And all the
